Perform a Trace Route


A trace route attempts to report on the current status of an internet connection at all locations between your computer and the destination.

To perform a tracert from Windows computer

* Go to START
* Search for 'Command Prompt'
* A black window will open (called as command prompt)

Type TRACERT yourdomainname.com.au and hit Enter (Please replace yourdomainname.com.au with your domain name)

Once TRACERT completes copy the result. To copy from the Windows command prompt:

Right-click on the background of the window and select “Mark”, and then draw a box around the text you want to copy. Once you have selected the text you want, then use the right mouse button or the  Enter key to copy the selected text to the clipboard.

To paste into the window, right-click and choose the “Paste” option on the menu.


To perform a Traceroute on a Mac simply perform the following steps:

- From your hard-drive, open the Applications folder, and click to open the Utilities folder.

- Double-click Terminal.

Type traceroute yourdomainname.com.au and hit Enter (Please replace yourdomainname.com.au with your domain name)

Once TRACERT completes copy the result. In the Terminal app on your Mac, do any of the following:

Copy text in another app, and then in Terminal choose Edit > Paste.

Drag selected text into a Terminal window from any macOS app that supports it.

Drag text clippings from the Finder into a Terminal window.
