- Open Notepad as a local Administrator on your PC.
(If you are logged in as a local user, you can right click on the Notepad icon and select "Run as Administrator".) - When Notepad has opened, click on File and then Open.
- Navigate to the below folder path
- C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc - Than open the file hosts
- Once the file is open, than you can modify it with your domain name and IP information.
- After you have completed modifying the file, than click on File and than Save
Below is an example of the line that you would add to the bottom of the file.
103.4.17.47 www.mydomain.com.au
Once you have completed modifying the file and saving it, you can return to your web browser and visit your website.
After you have completed any testing, you can than access the same hosts file again and remove the line that you have added.
Please Note:
By modifying this file, only your local computer will be able to access the website from the server. This process is the recommended procedure to access and test a site before you update the name servers for the particular domain name that you are testing.
